Tartuffe, a religious charlatan, worms his way into Orgon’s household, blinding him with his religious “devotion”, all the while planning to seduce his wife and disinherit his children. Lechery. Greed. Hypocrisy. Just as common and hilarious today, in Christopher Hampton’s modern-English translation of Tartuffe as they were in Moliere’s 17th Century Paris.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the increasingly desperate and vengeful creature determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.

The ever dynamic and exciting Lake Chapala Orchestra brings an afternoon of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to Lakeside on Saturday May 4.

Mozart is considered one of the greatest composers of all time and even though his short life spanned only 36 years he created over 600 compositions. The orchestra will feature two of his best loved works, the Symphony No. 29 and the Sinfonia Concertante for solo violin and viola.

Michael Reason, the LCO artistic director has invited Chris Wilshere, the artistic director of the Festival de Febrero and Luis Barrios, the orchestra’s principal viola to be the soloists. Chris is well known to local music lovers and his appearance follows his highly acclaimed performance of the Bruch Violin Concerto last year.

In addition to the Mozart pieces, the orchestra will be joined by the young students of Violines de la Casa from Tzipan performing a new work by British composer Dan Blackford called “The Oak and the Ash.” Chris Martin, one of the LCO’s violinists, is the founder of Violines de la Casa, and his students have earned high praise from local residents. The Lake Chapala Orchestra is very keen to foster collaborations with young musical groups.

There are 2 performances at 2pm and 4.30pm on Saturday May 4. The venue is Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 250 San Jorge, Riberas. Tickets are $350 each and can be reserved by email at LCCOtickets@gmail.com . Early reservations are encouraged as every LCO concert sells out weeks in advance

The Best Brothers by Daniel MacIvor

About the Play:

Nova Scotia playwright Daniel MacIvor makes death, dysfunction, conflicting personalities, resentments, and resolutions all come together hilariously in The Best Brothers. Oh, and did we mention their dearly departed mother’s pet dog whose custody becomes the focal point of the play and a catalyst for brotherly rapprochement.Underlying all the tension between them is an unspoken rivalry over which of them their mother loved the best. When their mother dies after an accident that falls far outside the ordinary, the pair must come together to deal with her affairs.

Even the mother turns up to comment. The brother’s “Mom Monologues” are an incredibly interesting device, because MacIvor has each brother playing their late mother!  But what you get is “Mom” the way each of them really saw her.

THE LAKE CHAPALA FINE ARTISTS GUILD ART SHOW

The Guild is proud to be showing its art at The Bravo! Theatre (Hidalgo 441, Riberas del Pilar, Ajijic).  Not only does it give patrons something nice to look at before the show, but should they be taken with a piece, they can purchase it and enjoy it at home. We will be changing the art every couple of months to enhance your enjoyment.  Enjoy a glass of wine, some exquisite art and an amazing production in one evening.
