Nestled on the shores of Lake Chapala, the charming town of Ajijic—designated as a Pueblo Mágico by Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism for its cultural and historical richness—is preparing to host one of its most anticipated cultural events of the year: the Ajijic Artists Exhibition 2025. From August 10 to 31, the Centro Cultural Ajijic (Ajijic Cultural Center) opens its doors to a group exhibition featuring 38 visual artists from the region. More than just a showcase of local talent, this year’s edition also commemorates the center’s 20th anniversary as a hub for creativity and artistic expression.

The official opening, held on August 10 at 1:00 PM, kicked off a multigenerational exhibit that brings together the works of seasoned masters, emerging talents, and even the legacies of artists who have passed away. Visitors can expect a vibrant mix of techniques, styles, and themes—ranging from traditional Mexican influences to modern abstract forms. With everything from colorful murals and expressive portraits to contemporary compositions, the exhibit offers a window into the creative soul of Ajijic.
Beyond its artistic value, the exhibition also serves as a space for reflection. During the opening ceremony, local authorities such as Chapala’s mayor, Alejandro Aguirre Curiel, highlighted the role of culture in shaping a community’s identity. Meanwhile, several artists voiced their hopes of further strengthening opportunities for younger generations. Some suggested the formation of an artist-led board to oversee the cultural center and promote workshops and greater access to creative spaces.
Notable participating artists include Antonio and Jesús López Vega, Efrén González, Alejandro Martínez, Paty Arceo, Bruno Mariscal, and Daniel Palma, among many others. Visitors will discover pieces that have accompanied the Cultural Center’s journey over the last two decades, as well as new works that reflect how art in Ajijic continues to evolve. The exhibition also pays tribute to influential artists such as Juan Navarro and Juan Olivares, whose creative legacy lives on in the local community.
For travelers and tourists, this is a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Ajijic’s artistic spirit. Strolling through the town during August feels like walking through an open-air gallery: painted walls, public sculptures, open studios, and an atmosphere steeped in creativity. The Ajijic Artists Exhibition 2025 is not just an art show—it’s an invitation to experience art as a way of life, and to connect with a community where creativity pulses through every street.
