Lakeside Little Theatre

At 4 pm on August 1st and 2nd, Lakeside Little Theatre will project National Theatre Live’s Dangerous Liaisons. The play chronicles the cunning machinations of Marquise de Merteui and Vicomte de Valmont, who turn seduction into strategy and weaponized desire. Seen and Heard-International claimed the production “…proves a compelling theatrical – and now a cinematic – experience. Something not to be missed…” Tickets for $350 are available at www.lakesidelittletheatre.com/tickets or at the box office before the performances. Patrons with a Mexican INE will receive a $100 peso discount at the box office or by making a reservation via tickets@lakesidelittletheatre.com.

Bravo! Theatre

The BRAVO! Presents Heisenberg

A stranger’s kiss sets Simon Stephens’ Heisenberg in motion. Georgie—impulsive and magnetic—unexpectedly connects with Alex, a reserved man who believes his life is already settled. Their encounter unfolds into a surprising and moving exploration of connection, vulnerability, and acceptance. BRAVO! presents Debra Felix and Maloy Murdock, two of lakeside’s finest actors, in a staged reading directed by Mark Nichols. Using scripts, movement, chairs, and the theatrical space, they bring the story vividly to life. Performances are August 1 and 2 at 4:00 PM. Tickets are $200 pesos; contact tickets@thebravo.org.

August 1 – 31

Casa del Sol Inn

Casa Del Sol Inn’s exhibit of extraordinary Clay pieces by ceramicist Dawn Carver continues until the end of August. Each piece is not only beautiful but practical as well, since all hold water. We will open a new exhibition of handmade prints by Colombian artist Luis Fernando Uribe on September 4. A living master, Uribe is a painter, printmaker and sculptor.

August 6, 7

Organization

LA RUSA MURAL

Join us Tuesday, August 11, at 4:00 p.m. for the unveiling of the La Rusa Mural at the Ajijic Cemetery, located near the north entrance along the carretera.

The mural honors the extraordinary life of Zara Alexeyewa—“La Rusa”—the legendary dancer, author, environmental champion, and one of Ajijic’s most fascinating historical figures. The unveiling coincides with what would have been her 130th birthday.

Artists Luis Vásquez and Wendy Gómez will be recognized for their work, with representatives from the Municipality of Chapala in attendance.

And who knows? Perhaps La Rusa herself may arrive on horseback to celebrate.

Everyone is warmly invited to attend this free community celebration.

ONGOING COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Ongoing

Tepalo Pickleball Club

In July and August, when local schools are not in session, pickleball can be played on the Santos Degollado Secondary School playground, all day, every day. The surface is first class. The sturdy corrugated roof casts cool shade over the court, offers protection from the rain, and is lighted for evening play. The school is in Ajijic, near Min Wah restaurant. Players donate just 50 pesos each, and every peso goes directly toward the school’s wish list. Last year, these contributions funded six new microscopes, and this summer they will help refurbish 30 classroom chairs. If you’d like to learn the sport, play under a roof or support the school kids, contact Rodger Ericson at 1-512-497-0787.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Ongoing

Lucky Dog Rescue

Want to be a huge part of Lucky Dog’s success? Consider opening your home to a foster dog. We are currently seeking fosters for puppies, dogs needing socialization or medical recovery, pre-transport placements, breed-specific placements, short-term three-day stays, and foster-to-adopt homes.

The truth is simple: dogs living in foster homes are significantly more likely to be adopted than dogs living in shelters. By fostering, you help a dog learn what life in a home is like while giving us valuable information to help find the perfect forever family. Whether you can help for a few days, a few weeks, or longer, you can make a life-changing difference.

Interested in learning more? Contact Lucky Dog Rescue Fostering Coordinator Colleen at: +1(503) 309-3459.

We also need regular on-site shelter volunteers every day from 9 to 1! Contact Melanie at: melanierosen62@gmail.com.

Donate at: https://www.theranchchapala.com.

We also continue to need dog walkers every day from 9ish to noon.
