Bare Stage Theatre is ‘Dark’ the Month of May
Every year Bare Stage Theatre goes ‘Dark’ in May. Why? Well, the answer is that it can get pretty warm, and we don’t want our audience and volunteer staff to suffer. Yes, yes, we were just back after the two months it took for our big move but otherwise, on the last full weekend of every month, we stage a rehearsed and dramatized reading of a play; from comedies to dramas and even the classics.
There are no costumes, props or set, just great acting and directing, although we’ve expanded our boundaries a little bit for our audiences’ experience. Our plays, although read in the true spirit of the genre, will whisk our audience up and into the performances and their own imaginations. A mere play reading? HA! Ask anyone who can’t wait to reserve their tickets every month. We will be offering an exciting ‘Season’ in 2024-2025.
All shows are at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $200 pesos. RESERVE NOW at barestagetheatre2018@gmail.com
Our new location: Saint Andrew’s, 19 San Lucas, (one block down from the Catholic Church on the lake side of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar). Look for directional signs. Handicapped parking is available out front and there’s a lot across the street. Our theatre is a scent free location.
Door and Bar open at 3:00 pm. All bar proceeds go to Operation Feed. Seats are held till 3:50 pm. Please Like, Follow & Share our Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/barestagetheatre2018/ But use our gmail address above to reserve your ticket.
THE LAKE CHAPALA FINE ARTISTS GUILD ART SHOW
The Guild is proud to be showing its art at The Bravo! Theatre (Hidalgo 441, Riberas del Pilar, Ajijic). Not only does it give patrons something nice to look at before the show, but should they be taken with a piece, they can purchase it and enjoy it at home. We will be changing the art every couple of months to enhance your enjoyment. Enjoy a glass of wine, some exquisite art and an amazing production in one evening. The current show will be up until the middle of May. Stephany Andrews, President of Lake Chapala Fine Arts Guild.

Indeed, Mexico’s folk-art traditions are disappearing at an alarming rate. Artisans need opportunities to sell their work and the Feria offers them a venue at absolutely no cost: no booth fee, no percentage of sales. We pay their transportation to and from the event and find them host families where they sleep and eat for the three days of the show. For some artisans, the sales they make at the Feria represent a major portion of their annual income.
The selection criteria for artisans are based on the merit and quality of their work, as well as their ability to continue to produce it. Traditional folk art reflects shared cultural aesthetics and traditions; however, for the purposes of the Feria, traditions are dynamic and traditional folk art can be both reactive to and innovative for the times.
Truly, we promote a wide range of Mexican folk art: world class, up-and-coming, innovative, and traditional.
Having 85 artisans at the Feria offers the public the opportunity to see the work of some of Mexico’s finest artists, allowing each artist a place to exhibit and sell their work. Indeed, the Feria promotes the folk art of Mexico, while educating the public that such art is in danger of disappearing forever.
We are a non-profit organization and are run entirely by volunteers.
