The Fallen-Women of Ajijic

I know I am a newbie in Ajijic. But I keep hearing this phrase in conversational-passing, “The fallen-women of Ajijic”. I keep hearing it. The first time I heard it, I thought, “It must be some adult-literature” I began looking into it. Nothing. Nothing online, nothing at the LCS library, not one book, not one photo.

Can it be that with everything in this ancient mountain-side, Mexican-cowboy experience that there is something else, something I could learn? Of course, but who are these women? What are they made of? Why have they gathered here to flaunt their wares on us, we gringo-mountain men, men who, like me, are trying to live out our lives, lives in a foreign experience, steeped-deep in an ancient tradition? I needed more answers.

Then it finally occurred to me. I’ve seen four or five of these gringo-ladies go down out on the wretched cobblestone streets, spilled like a sack of potatoes, heck even my wife splashed down a couple of times, blood on the elbows & knees, blood on the highway. There is no soft-pornography here, none. These are just ladies falling, victims of the cobblestone, dropping to the wrong-turned heel against stone, a last moment false-reflection at the step ahead before the foot touches the earth. Well, that’s not a sultry book at all. But it is truth.

I started to focus. Suddenly, whether at the plaza in village Centro, Laguna Mall or Bonanza down by the Ajijic Malecon, women were dropping everywhere, one by one, purse by purse. I know the hospitals are getting busy, and I know some of these falls are very, very serious, and I am not here to upset anyone about unfortunate victims of grave injuries. Thoughts & prayers to you. Hoping for speedy recoveries.

But am I the only one finding some of these fallen-women of Ajijic sexy?
