SALSA DANCE AT THE LAKE CHAPALA SOCIETY

MUSHROOM CULTIVATION CLASS
Discover the fascinating world of fungi at the Lake Chapala Society’s Oyster Species Mushroom Cultivation Workshop on Saturday, October 4th, from 10 am to 2 pm. In this hands-on session, instructors Alexandra Morales and Marco Fregoso will guide you through the art and science of growing your own oyster mushrooms. Learn every step of the process, from spore to plate, and gain the confidence to cultivate this nutritious and sustainable food at home. All events take place Sundays, 10:15–11:30 a.m., at the Lake Chapala Society Campus in Ajijic.
No cost to attend (donations welcome).
All are invited, regardless of age or background.
Events are presented in English, but non-English speakers will find support from bilingual participants and staff.
Arrive early for coffee, snacks, and friendly conversation before the presentation.
October 5 – Live Performance: The Legend of “La Rusa,” an Iconic Ajijic Personality
Discover the colorful history of “La Rusa” (Eleanor Sanger of Brooklyn), an actress, dancer, and activist who made Ajijic her home for five decades. Known for her unique style and fearless horseback rides through the village, “La Rusa” shaped the spirit of the community and fought to protect Lake Chapala. This unique event features dramatization, music, and insights drawn from local historian Tony Burton’s research.

October 12 – Stop Abandoning Yourself, Babe, and Start Being a Problem
Reflect on the importance of self-care, self-love, and reclaiming one’s voice—at any stage of life. This empowering talk invites mature women (and men) to challenge old habits, nurture their instincts, and model confidence and wholeness for younger generations.

Leanne, internationally recognized author and life coach, specializing in wellbeing, generational healing, and personal transformation.
October 19 – Lessons from Coco: Preserving Family Stories
Revisit cherished Día de Muertos traditions and the powerful lessons of Disney-Pixar’s “Coco”. This talk encourages preserving stories, honoring ancestors, and building family legacy—core values deeply rooted in Mexican culture and especially meaningful for adults focused on generational connection.

Alicia Knox & Greg Kemp, lifelong educators, storytellers, and certified biography instructors, passionate about helping people preserve their life experiences.
October 26 – How to Die Well: 10 Tips for the Living
Explore how planning for the end of life can bring peace, dignity, and comfort to both ourselves and our loved ones. This session offers caring, practical advice rooted in years of experience, tailored to the needs of those living both in Mexico and abroad.
Presenter:
Loretta Downs, compassionate death doula and advance care planner. With four decades of experience at the end of life, including in Lakeside, she shares gentle strategies for acceptance and preparation.
