Centro Educativo Jaltepec – July 2024

Focus on Alumnae – Transforming Women for Life

The experience of attending and graduating from Centro Educativo Jaltepec goes far beyond the student’s education and extends to their families and their communities in a positive way.

It is important to highlight that approximately 85% of Jaltepec’s students return to their hometowns once they graduate. By doing so, they become agents of change in their communities by applying the knowledge acquired at the Center to promote economic and social development.

More than 15% of Jaltepec’s graduates have started their own businesses after graduating, this allows them not only to be successful entrepreneurs, but also to create employment opportunities in their local communities. As a result, they not only improve their own standard of living, but also contribute to the economic growth of those around them.

Additionally, around 60% of Jaltepec’s alumnae play a crucial role in promoting and recruiting new students for the Institute, by sharing their experiences and successes, they inspire other young women to follow in their footsteps and pursue an education in hotel and hospitality at Jaltepec.

It is notable that for the first time we have been receiving information from potential employers posting on our Alumnae Webpage.  For example, there is one from a fabulous Spa Resort in Oaxaca.  Presently we have three Alumnae who are from Oaxaca and this employment opportunity is very attractive. Perhaps, one of them will end up working there but with the training our students receive by the time they graduate, they may well be capable of running the resort!

March 17th Alumnae Event

Over 80 Jaltepec staff, alumnae and their families gathered at Jaltepec on March 17th. It was a special celebratory day highlighted by a visit to the new facilities. The alumnae then shared many reminiscences of their time at Jaltepec while enjoying delicious appetisers before the start of the main program.

There were heartfelt words from the Director, Laura Hernández, followed by a presentation from Instructor Rosana Facio, who discussed the exciting changes and new programs at Jaltepec. Rosana is also responsible for promoting the school with new applicants and coordinating and monitoring internships.  She distributed promotional material and attendees were encouraged to invite other young women to join the educational community. To further strengthen the alumnae network, a commercial directory supporting alumnae businesses has been created, which will encourage collaboration and community.

Gloria Rodríguez, owner and chef of the renowned Teocintle Maíz restaurant in Ajijic, added a special touch to the event, as she shared her experience and the positive impact Jaltepec has had on her life. All in all, the event was an unforgettable day filled with cherished memories.

This one-year course is offered by the University of Patagonia with headquarters in Guadalajara. Katy has expressed her commitment to this endeavor by contributing $1,000 pesos per month towards the costs of tuition as well as covering the cost of the enrollment fee. However, the total amount needed from the community to support Katy is $33,000 pesos.  At present we are halfway to our goal.
