Updates and Upcoming Events
Centro Educativo Jaltepec, the only technical university in hotel and hospitality management in all of Mexico, is looking forward to a new academic year with enthusiastic administrators, teachers, and most of all, our loyal Lakeside sponsors and supporters who provide so much to assist the young women who are studying and working to “transform their lives.” This year will feature a fresh look at the training of our students and plans for upcoming community events to raise funds to benefit the students.
Jaltepec has made an important announcement regarding the school’s academic program. The Preparatoria High School program will be discontinued and the focus will now be on enhancing higher-level professional training with a career in técnico superior universitario en hotelería. This will provide the students with a more specialized and targeted educational experience to align with the evolving demands of the job market and offer better and greater long-term opportunities.
This year’s graduation ceremony at Jaltepec took place on August 12th.
There were seven loyal sponsors and our volunteers in attendance with Linda Buckthorp, Community Facilitator for Jaltepec.
The following is an excerpt from the graduation speechto acknowledge the sponsors and the North American community:
“We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our dear international community for the great support provided to us throughout this journey. The generosity of individuals like you has enabled us to be where we are today. You have shown us that anything is possible and that dreams can become a reality; all it takes is hard work and determination.
“This moment belongs to you just as much as it does to us, and words cannot adequately express our gratitude for everything you have done. We are committed to making you proud as we embark on this new chapter in our lives.”
Gloria Rodriguez, an alumnus of Jaltepec, and Ricardo Robledo, co-owners of the well-known Ajijic restaurant, Teocintle Maíz, have opened a new store, Los Hijos Del Maíz (the Sons of the Corn) on Juarez #25B, corner of Zaragoza Street. Ana Maraly Pavón and Janeth Ibarra, two recent Jaltepec alumni, are currently working with Gloria and helping her with the sales at the new store.
They are excited to offer a variety of traditional local artisan handmade items, along with customers’ favorites and food to go. There will be an assortment of moles, salsas, marinades and salad dressings, recipes you have enjoyed at Teocintle Maíz. Tequila Reserva de Los González will be available. The food-to-go menu will include two soups, two salads and three main courses per week.
Business hours are Tuesday to Saturday 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
