Anyone with sisters can imagine what would happen when they get together every other Friday night to play bridge. Stories will be shared, gossip will make the rounds, and sparks will fly. So it is with The Octette Bridge Club, when eight Irish Catholic sisters come together for a friendly game on a Friday in 1934.
Each sister is meticulously crafted, with distinct personalities and individual struggles contributing to the overall tapestry of the narrative. The playwright, P.J. Barry, skillfully uses the bridge game as a metaphor for negotiating relationships and illustrating how the rules of the game parallel the unwritten rules that govern their interactions. As the game progresses, so do the revelations, with each hand dealt revealing deeper truths and unresolved tensions among the sisters.
Overall, the play stands out as a poignant exploration of personal connections and the complexities of human interaction, leaving audiences with much to reflect on long after the final curtain.
Playwright P.J. Barry is known most notably for The Octette Bridge Club, which ran on Broadway in 1985. Much like Shakespeare, the theme is universal. Rosann Balbontin directs.

How do you carry around a heart that has been broken into nineteen pieces?
Does getting closer mean moving farther apart? What does it mean to “fall” in love?
Set in a place that is so far north, it is almost not in the United States. It is almost in Canada. And it is not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So, it almost does not exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above Almost, Maine, nine couples find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways.
The BRAVO! Theatre is located at 441 Hidalgo in Riberas Del Pilar, just west of S&S Auto. Doors open one hour before showtime, so come early to mingle and enjoy a drink in our lounge.

Ever since the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak completed his 9th and final symphony it has established itself as one of the most popular orchestral works of all time.
Nicknamed the “New World Symphony” it was written in 1893 while Dvorak was director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York. The composer was influenced by African American spirituals and Southern Plantation songs and used elements of these within the symphony. The famous theme of the second movement would become the well-known song “Going Home.”
The concert opens with Tchaikovsky’s “Variations on a Rococo Theme” for cello and orchestra. This technically demanding work has been recorded by all the great cellists from Pablo Casals to Yo Yo Ma.
Yalissa Cruz, one of Mexico’s most outstanding cellists, will be the soloist for the LCO’s performance. “Yalissa is an artist that inspires everyone who performs with her, and I am delighted that she accepted our invitation to participate in this concert,” says Michael Reason the orchestra’s conductor.
Like all Lake Chapala Orchestra concerts, this will be a sellout so early booking is advised.

Mexico’s folk-art traditions are disappearing at an alarming rate. Artisans need opportunities to sell their work, and the Feria offers them a venue at absolutely no cost: no booth fee, no percentage of sales. We pay their transportation to and from the event and find them host families where they sleep and eat for the three days of the show. For some artisans, the sales they make at the Feria represent a major portion of their annual income.
The selection criteria for artisans is based on the merit and quality of their work, as well as their ability to continue to produce it. Traditional folk art reflects shared cultural aesthetics and traditions, however, for the purposes of the Feria, traditions are dynamic and traditional folk art can be both reactive to and innovative for the times. Indeed, we promote a wide range of Mexican folk art: world class, up-and-coming, innovative, and traditional.
Having 85 artisans at the Feria offers the public the opportunity to see the work of some of Mexico’s finest artists, allowing each artist a place to exhibit and sell their work. Indeed, the Feria promotes the folk art of Mexico, while educating the public that such art is in danger disappearing forever.
We are a non-profit organization and are run entirely by volunteers. For more information email:info@feriamaestros.com or Marianne Carlson, Founder of the Feria, has provided this information from the Feria website.
