Mexican Cancer Tapestry to Highlight TEDxAjijic
Ajijic, Jalisco:
TEDxAjijic will make its debut on the shores of Lake Chapala on March 22, 2025, and will feature the introduction of the Mexican Cancer Tapestry.
The aim of the Mexican Cancer Tapestry is to, in a tangible way, depict one thousand stories of cancer, not only the science behind cancer care and the process most cancer patients receive, but the human side of cancer treatment. The compassion and caring that comes not only from doctors, nurses and staff, but from family, friends and community.
The history of Tapestry started with one of our TEDxAjijic speakers, Andrew Crummy. In 2017, Andrew was being treated for throat cancer. While undergoing chemotherapy, Andrew’s oncologist Dr. Loanna Nixon noticed Andrew sketching, and the idea of the Cancer Tapestry was born. The first Tapestry was initiated in Scotland, where Andrew was being treated, and the idea has been brought to Mexico with the initiation of the Mexican Cancer Tapestry.
What is TEDxAjijic? TEDxAjijic is a locally organized event offered to the community through a license issued by TED. What is TED? TED is an acronym that stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. The first TED event was held in 1984 in Monterrey, California, and celebrated the technological emergence and confluence in the areas of technology, entertainment, and design. Today TED events are held annually. In 2009 TED began licensing TEDx events, with the idea of spreading thought-provoking and idea-laden events around the world. Today, there are more than 3,000 TEDx events held globally. All TED and TEDx talks are recorded and can be viewed at TED.com.
Each TEDx event has a theme. The theme of TEDxAjijic is “The ART of POSSIBILITY.” Just as the Tapestry idea was a way to humanize the impact of cancer on humanity, our other speakers will highlight the ART of POSSIBILITY with ideas related to Aging, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Education, Extraterrestrial Life, Humanity, Investing, Personal Growth, Philanthropy, and other Ideas Worth Spreading. After all, Ideas Change Everything!
In addition to Andrew Crummy, confirmed TEDxAjijic speakers include Sharon Brooks, Jesus Cochegrus, Kathleen Durham, David Ellison, Fraser MacLean, Kat Miller, Michael Nuschke, Debi Lynes, Kat O’Sullivan, and Barbara Wilson.
TEDxAjijic will be held on March 22, 2025, at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera located in Ajijic on the Carretera a Chapala-Jocotepec 168, Col. La Floresta.
Doors open at 1:00 pm, with the program beginning at 1:45 pm. The program will include a short intermission, and is scheduled to end at 5:30 pm, with a post-event opportunity to learn more about the Mexican Cancer Tapestry and to meet all of the speakers.
