Managing medication schedules can be challenging, especially for elderly individuals and caregivers. Enter Pillo, an intelligent pill reminder application designed to streamline this process. I learned about this when I was released from the hospital and nursing homes earlier this year with a daunting list of 14 medicines, many to be taken at different times of the day for different lengths of time. Fortunately, my son had flown in to help me and being an IT guy, he decided after a few hours of trying to make a schedule for me, including photos of the various pills and boxes, that there must be an easier way. Voila! An application called Pillo.
While he was here, he managed my schedule and when he left, after a brief lesson on the app (it’s really easy and intuitive), I found I could easily do it on my own although I didn’t have 100% of my mental facilities back yet. This app is useful for both the patient and the caregiver. Here are some of its best features:
Medication Tracking
Organizing medications is simple with Pillo. Users can create a detailed list of all medications, including the dose, the strength, the frequency and even the form and color of the medicine. I like the fact that it tells me what conditions this prescription is helping me manage and keeps track of the prescribing doctor.
Additionally, it is possible to track medication stock levels, ensuring there is no risk of running out. For example, Pillo alerts me when my medicine is scheduled to be taken and it continues alerting me like a nagging coach until I say, “All right! I’ve taken it.” And, it notifies me when I am down to my last five pills so I never run out.
Health Measurement Tracking
Pillo isn’t just a pill reminder; it also tracks important health metrics like weight, blood pressure, and glucose levels. By inputting these daily, users can monitor trends and make informed decisions about their health. This historical information can be viewed in graph format and is helpful for upcoming doctor visits as well.
User-Friendly Interface
My vision isn’t the best and Pillo’s large icons and clear instructions make it simple to manage medications and health metrics, reducing the stress often associated with medication management.
Caregiver Mode
For caregivers, managing someone else’s medication can be overwhelming. Pillo’s caregiver mode allows the management of medication reminders for up to two dependents (including pets)! Whether it’s a family member or a patient, caregivers can ensure they take their medications as prescribed.
