Celebrate Arbor Day 1973 at The Starlight Lounge (aka The BRAVO!)

It’s almost Arbor Day 1973 and the Starlight Lounge is celebrating with a night of early 70’s tunes, lounge smarm, and a touch of chaos. Host and owner Mitsy Dacron keeps the music and martinis flowing despite complications with the headliner’s touring act and his famous dancing Chihuahuas. With the groovy house band playing hits of the era, anything can happen at the Starlight Lounge!

Lakeside Little Theatre

LLT will be showing the Metropolitan Opera’s production of El Ultimo Sueño de Frida y Diego on Sunday the 14th and Monday the 15th at 4:00 p.m., presented in LLT’s McIntosh Auditorium using its state-of-the-art projection and sound system.
Set during Día de los Muertos, this visually rich opera imagines a final reunion between Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Blending Mexican folklore, history, and surreal imagery, it follows Frida as she reflects on love, identity, artistic legacy, and reconciliation. The Los Angeles Times praised the production as one that “bursts with color and fresh individuality.”

Who couldn’t use a few laughs? Neil Simon was a master of comedy and a beloved playwright whose work has delighted audiences for decades. Known for his sharp wit and relatable characters, he penned iconic plays like The Odd Couple and Barefoot in the Park, blending humor with heartfelt moments. Simon’s unique ability to capture the complexities of human relationships resonated with many, earning him numerous awards, including Tony Awards and an Oscar nomination. His legacy continues to inspire generations of writers and theatre lovers around the world!
Our celebration kicks off with The Odd Couple in June, on the 26th, 27th & 28th. This timeless, comedic masterpiece explores the chaotic synergy between polar opposites. When obsessive neat-freak Felix Ungar moves in with his slovenly friend Oscar Madison after separating from his wife, the result is comedic gold. Roseann Wilshere directs.

Las Voces del Lago

Las Voces del Lago presents Broadway Musical Magic at Lakeside. Lake Chapala’s dynamic community chorus celebrates Broadway in concerts on July 8 and 9 at 3:00pm at the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Chapala. Following sold-out December performances, the 65-voice ensemble, led by director Ken Turner, returns with a vibrant program of beloved Broadway classics. Audiences will enjoy stirring selections from both the Mixed Chorus and the Women’s Chorus, showcasing rich sound and expressive range. Renowned for musical excellence and engaging performances, Las Voces del Lago continues to delight and inspire Lakeside audiences.

Lakeside Freethinkers
The Lakeside Freethinkers plan to meet on Thursday, June 18, starting at about 4 PM via Zoom to hear Peter Jeschofnig’s talk on what Albert Schweitzer wrote and said about Biblical teachings. There will be time to discuss Peter’s presentation in keeping with Freethinking principles such as critical thinking, scientific literacy, and similar objectives.

La Rusa Mural

A new community-funded mural honoring the legendary “La Rusa,” Zara Alexeyewa, is currently underway at the Ajijic Cemetery in collaboration with the Municipality of Chapala. Known for her vibrant life as a dancer, performer, and passionate advocate for the protection of Lake Chapala, La Rusa remains a beloved local figure. Artists are at work weekday mornings, and the public is welcome to stop by. And we always need DOG WALKERS and FOSTERS, especially since our snowbird volunteers have flown North. Dog walking occurs every day between 9:15 and 12:00. Lucky Dog is seeking volunteers for key roles to help support the dogs in our care and strengthen our organization.

High Priority:
Treasurer (5–8 hrs/week): banking, payroll, reconciliation, accountant meetings. Requires Permanente residency.
President (20–30 hrs/month): planning, fundraising, approvals, leadership. Requires Permanente residency.
Next Priority:
Operations Manager (5–8 hrs/week): coordinate maintenance, meetings, daily operations.
Fundraising Coordinator develop ideas and oversee events.
